A mother has amazed doctors by giving birth to a “miracle” baby after she had THREE organ transplants. Tina Martin, 43, was told she would probably have a miscarriage after she got pregnant following the operations and taking drugs she needed to ensure the organs would be accepted.
But Tina, who has suffered from Type 1 diabetes since the age of seven, gave birth to 4lb Tassiah (corr) in January by Cesarean section, it has emerged. Dr Jonathan Kwan, her consultant at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, said: ‘It is an absolute miracle that Tina managed to give birth to this little wonder, Tassiah, under the most adverse set of clinical circumstances.

“The odds were totally stacked against her.
"There cannot be many, if any, patients in the world who suffer from diabetic end stage kidney disease, who have a 10-year history of kidney failure treatment, who have been on dialysis and subsequently received three transplanted organs, and then managed to conceive successfully, never mind producing a healthy baby.”
Tina is believed to be the oldest person to give birth after a kidney and pancreas transplant.
She said: “The obstetricians really did prepare me for the worst and were quite sure that the worst would happen.”
Tina had two children before the operations, which included kidneys donated by her mother and brother and a pancreas from a dead donor - which has failed and needs to be replaced again.
Tina, who lives in Seaton, Devon, with husband Neil, is frail and has lost her sight due to her illness but remains positive about the future.
She said: “I’ve been told that I can have another pancreas. I’ll just keep my fingers cross.”
