Mesut Ozil - A New Breed For Arsenal

Germany international Mesut Ozil faces the media today, Thursday ahead of his anticipated Arsenal debut at the weekend.
Ozil has been on international duty with Germany since his club record move to the Emirates on deadline day.
The 24-year-old scored a penalty in Germany's 3-0 victory over the Faroe Islands on Tuesday night, which took Joachim Low's side to within a win of qualifying for next summer's World Cup.

Focus switches back to the Premier League on Thursday when he'll be introduced to the media this morning and will then hold a news conference with Arsene Wenger this lunchtime. Ozil is in line to make his debut against Sunderland on Saturday.

Ozil signed for Arsenal on transfer deadline day in a deal worth around £42.5m after three years with Real Madrid, in which he scored 19 goals in 105 games. The arrival of the Germany international calmed some of the disquiet among Arsenal fans after Wenger struggled to bolster his squad over the summer, with Mathieu Flamini and Yaya Sanogo the only other acquisitions. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is excited to see Ozil in the Premier League, especially playing alongside Spanish international Santi Cazorla, but does not believe his arrival will transform Arsenal into title challengers.

There has been a lot of talk over the summer that we [the Premier League] hasn't attracted the top players. He is a top player," Carragher said. "To get him is a big coup for Arsenal.

"Whether they needed that type of player in that position more than others, I would question. I think it will be interesting to see how he links up with Cazorla. It looks like Cazorla will play in a wider position.

"I liked him [Cazorla] last season in that position behind the striker but you would imagine Ozil will play that position. So with them linking up, I think it will be a joy to watch Arsenal.

"But will that take them to where they need to be in terms of challenging for the title? We love Arsenal and every other team competing, and wish them the best this season.
