The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Rabat, Marrakech Agadir and Tangier will be the host cities for Morocco’s staging of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF said on Monday that the four cities were confirmed at its executive committee meetings on Saturday and Sunday. Morocco’s largest city, Casablanca will act as a reserve venue for the tournament, which will run from January 17 to February 7.
Meanwhile, African football’s governing body also said the Libyan Football Federation had submitted cities and venues for approval for its hosting of the 2017 Cup of Nations.
Libya was originally due to host this year’s African Nations Championship tournament, only for it to be switched to South Africa amid security concerns.
The Libyan government in April revealed plans to develop a new 60,000-seat stadium in the Tripoli suburb of Tajoura as part of its efforts to host the 2017 tournament.
The Libya news agency reported that a second stadium for the tournament, seating 23,000 fans, will be developed in Misrata, while games will also be played in Benghazi.
The country hosted its sole edition of the Cup of Nations in 1982.
