The Swedes have done emotional coupes before – like the C70 and the legendary P1800 – but the Volvo Concept Coupe is the first from its new designer, Thomas Ingenlath. Recruited from VW, Ingenlath says that the concept, which is underpinned by the new SPA platform (which stands for Scalable Platform Architecture) that will be used on the 2014 XC90, is both a nod to the past and a signal of intent for the future. You’ll be able to see it at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

Cadillac’s current CTS sedan is one of our favorite mid-size luxury cars—we also dig the soon-to-be-defunct wagon and yet-to-be-redesigned coupe—so a new one is a big deal. Entering its third generation, the CTS once again will carry the ever-improving reputation of the entire Cadillac brand upon its well-sculpted shoulders. Good thing the new sedan looks like it’s got the goods to continue moving the breed forward, with handsome, upscale looks and a new, optional twin-turbocharged V-6 engine packing 420 horsepower.
