MEGAN YOUNG: Her Guide To Winning Miss World 2013

Call it destiny. Or fate. Perhaps the stars were harmoniously aligned to favor a victory. Attribute it to her natural beauty, to a strong will and perfect discipline. But more importantly, look into her heart. This is what truly guided her toward triumph.
Thus, Megan Lynne Young made history by becoming the very first Filipino woman to be crowned Miss World, on the auspicious night of Sept. 28, in Bali, Indonesia.

Heart and mind
What Gary Zukao and Linda Francis wrote in their book “The Heart of the Soul,” and Dr. Deepak Chopra’s equally enlightening thoughts in “The Path to Love,” bear repeating: “If one chooses to tap the energy of love, then you can expect a good outcome in your life.”
When both heart and mind are one, this dynamic duo will catapult you toward success.
The heart says “I want.” It is the seat of desire. The mind says “I will.” It is the foundation of determination.
When these two forge an alliance, the partnership becomes invincible.
As an organ, the heart is not much bigger than your clenched fist. And while its job is to pump and filter blood throughout the body, there is yet another heart found within. This “heart of hearts” is the source of inspiration, love and empathy. And it is intertwined with the spirit.
And that is why when the term wellness is discussed, central to its definition is the oneness of body, mind and spirit. Or if you prefer—body, mind and heart.
A review of the 5 D’s to success, whether it be your health goal or your life  goal, includes the following:
Desire. This is what you cherish most in your heart. If you want to know what it is, then ask yourself and the answer will come to you. Allow the inner light bulb to light up by simply asking yourself the question: “What is my fondest wish?”
Determination. What’s on your mind? Better yet, what’s inside your mind? The stuff that makes your thoughts, especially the ones that don’t fade but increase in intensity or frequency with the passage of time, are what will give you the determination to turn desire into a reality. That “go for it” attitude exacts a commitment from you.
Drive. It’s  literally the foot on the gas pedal, with no stopping until you reach your desired destination. This level of awareness needs no motivation except the self. No external forces can derail you from reaching your destination.
Discipline. Where many often fail is in the area of discipline. This is the daily demand of hard work or effort you need to put in to accomplish your mission.
For example, your goal is to lose 10 lbs.
Regimen: Avoid white rice, bread and pasta. Eat only vegetables, fruits, lean meats. Avoid anything fried or oily.
Cardiovascular exercise: Running, walking, dancing, 20-30 minutes daily.
It’s the little things you do each day that lead to the big things.
Delight. The fifth and the most well-deserved of D’s is this. Once you look at yourself in the mirror after giving yourself a reasonable timetable, you will be delighted with yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back. Your new, youthful look is well-deserved.
Big win
In the case of Miss World 2013, Megan’s D’s were brilliantly accomplished.
For her single-minded pursuit of the crown, she did the following:
  • Diet. No crash diet. Instead, she went for balanced meals composed of protein, vegetables and limited carbohydrates.
  • Exercise. Megan’s daily gym visits included moderate intensity workouts, light resistance training and dance classes.
  • Mind-set.  Positive, uplifting, hopeful and inspired.
  • Mood. Cheerful, open, affectionate, grounded.
