The carelessness of a 30-year-old nursing mother, Lilian Asantewaa has led to the untimely and avoidable death of her 7-month-old baby boy who suffocated while he was being breast-fed.
According to report, Lilian was drunk that Sunday night and slept off while breastfeeding her baby. The child was said to have been mistakenly smothered to death.
The incident which took place at the Akyem Old Tafo in the East Akim Municipal of the Eastern Region in Ghana left residents of the area in shock.
The baby has since been buried and the Tafo Divisional Police Command has commenced investigation into the matter.
However, efforts to speak to the grieving nursing mother proved futile as she declined to give any comment.
