A 90th-minute penalty from Emmanuel Emenike earned Nigeria a 2-1 win away at Ethiopia in their World Cup qualifying playoff first leg. Ethiopia went ahead in bizarre circumstances on 57 minutes, when Behailu Assefa's cross was caught behind the goal-line by Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.
Their lead lasted just 10 minutes, however, with Emenike shooting home from just outside the box to bring things level. Emenike won the game late on when he converted a penalty in the final minute. As if that wasn't hard enough to take for Ethiopia fans, there were claims this early effort crossed the line and should have counted.

The second leg will be played on November 16 in Nigeria.
