Maryland Cop Shoots Son To Stop Fatal Stabbing Attack On Wife (DETAILS)

A police sergeant in Montgomery County, Md. shot and killed his son while the boy was stabbing his mother inside their family home.

A police spokesman said the sergeant, a 27-year veteran of the county’s police force, was off duty just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night when he observed his 25-year-old son stabbing his mother with a sharp object. The sergeant shot his son in an attempt to stop the attack, killing him.

The son was pronounced dead inside the home. The wife, a 53-year-old mother of three, was transported to a hospital, but died Thursday morning from her stab wounds.

The sergeant’s two daughters were both away at college during Wednesday’s incident.

Police said the officer called 911 immediately after shooting his son, but did not say whether the gun he used was his department-issued weapon. Police also did not say how many times the female victim was stabbed or how many times the son was shot.
