This past week we faced some shocking news as we learned that former South African President, Nelson Mandela had passed away. At 95 years old, the iconic leader truly made his mark on the world, but most of all his friends and family.
A memorial service was held for Nelson Mandela today, and as expected many came to honor him including his former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. Accompanied by President Jacob Zuma in the front row of the church, Winnie sat patiently throughout the ceremony, was seen praying and even showing a bright smile.
During the eulogy, President Zuma said of Mandela:
‘He believed in forgiveness and he forgave, even those who kept him in jail for 27 years,’ Zuma said in a eulogy. ‘He stood for freedom. He fought against those who oppressed others. He wanted everyone to be free.’
The country has come to what they call a “standstill” in order to properly mourn Nelson’s death, and his funeral is set to have the arrival of some of the world’s most influential leaders.
President Obama along with Michelle Obama will both join the ceremonies to honor the South African leader.
Nelson Mandela was a very inspiring man and we are glad to see his legacy being honored.
