Jose Mourinho is testing the old football adage of being dangerous to go back.
The Special One's return to Chelsea was always going to be full of drama, excitement and emotion. But, most of all, it was also supposed to bring back the trophies from first time around. Premier League titles, cups and hopefully European success.
But it has been far from easy. As Chelsea embark on the next phase of their Champions League campaign and look to avenge their home defeat to FC Basel, Mourinho is still seeking a consistency at Stamford Bridge.
Last time around, Mourinho looked invincible as the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba swept aside everything in front of them.
Back-to-back Premier League titles and domestic cups. It looked as if Chelsea and Mourinho would reign supreme for years to come.
It didn't work out like that as Mourinho's fiery temperament meant that he was always destined to leave Stamford Bridge with owner Roman Abramovich looking for a successor.
This time around, the team looks less settled and Mourinho has also looked to play a more expansive style with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata in midfield.
Finding the right balance between attack, defence and winning has been Mourinho's most difficult task.
This week they face FC Basel and yet the Swiss underdogs perhaps provided the most surprising of all Chelsea's slip-ups.
Defeat in the Champions League at home to Stamford Bridge to bad goals from a defensive point of view was not something you expect from Mourinho.
Many expected him to return and just instantly be successful because of his style, reputation and managerial ability. But slip-ups have been regular and surprising.
Chelsea have recovered form in the Champions League, look destined to go through and yet domestically they have yet to find their feet.
Mourinho still looks to be searching for the best winning combination. The best line-up, whether he can accommodate Mata in his line-up, the best striker to lead his attack and answers to defensive frailties.
It will be harder than ever for Chelsea to win the title as the Premier League has been unpredictable and exciting with everyone slipping up.
If Manchester City have the best squad, then Chelsea have the manager with the most expectation on his shoulders. He knows second is not an option.
But Mourinho needs to find solutions, a way of playing to be successful and to prove that sometimes you can be even better second time around.
