Excited gamers have been out in force across the UK trying to get their hands on the PlayStation 4, which went on sale at midnight.
Queues have been reported outside shops the length and breadth of the country as gaming fans waited patiently for the next generation console to hit the shelves.
Speaking at last night's launch party in London's Covent Garden, Andrew House, the chief executive officer of manufacturers Sony, said: "It's just absolutely energising to be here today.
"We have got people lining up outside, I hope eager to receive the first PlayStation 4, and I shall be giving out the first unit on the stroke of midnight.
"I got to shake some hands, and take some photos with fans, which is fantastic, and it's not exactly warm out there. We absolutely appreciate the support.
"The PlayStation 4 has got what consumers have come to expect from a new launch but more than anything else it's the social aspect of the games that we have really focused on.
"We are trying to create a much more social and connected feeling.
"The whole goal of PlayStation 4 is to connect people via play, in a way that they maybe have not had before."
The PS4 costs £349.
