New Patent Lets Apple Build Fingerprint Scanners in More Devices

Apple has received a slew of new patents, including one for its fingerprint sensor technology. The fingerprint scanner patent was one of 40 granted to Apple last week. It allows the company to build sensors into the bezel structure, making it possible for Apple to design sensors in devices without a home button, such as Macs or Apple TVs.
The scanner patent was technically granted to AuthenTec last week. But since Apple purchased AuthenTec last year, Apple now owns the patent, too.
The company was also awarded patents for its iPad Smart Cover and a light-sensitive display with a pressure sensor. This isn't the first patent that hashinted at a smart pen; rather, it's Apple's sixth patent relating to a light-sensitive display.
Not each of these 40 patents concern devices. One regarding iTunes Radiopatents personalizing music based on preferences.
