Outlandish star Lily Allen's new Hard Out Here video has reached 2.2 million views just two days after it was published online. An ode to gender equality, the video sees women twerking seductively as Lily sings about sexism and misogyny in modern pop culture.
Fans have responded largely positively to the release of Hard Out Here, in which the outspoken star returns with another hit that has engaged listeners in debate and stirred up controversy.
While an prominent nod to current feminist issues, the clip has sparked negative criticism over race.
At the same time, the multi-layered references to recent controversies in popular culture have proven popular, including a jibe at Miley Cyrus's MTV performance.
In Hard Out Here, Lily sings: "Don't need to shake my ass for you 'cuz I got a brain.
"If I told you 'bout my sex life, you'd call me a s**t.
"When boys be talkin' 'bout their b*****s no one's making a fuss."
She also refers to female body image, as the video begins with the star getting liposuction, while being told by doctors that she "let herself go" after having two children.
Fresh off the back of her cover of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know for the John Lewis Christmas advert, this is her first new song since 2009.
A few months back, Lily hinted that she would be back to her usual candid self in her new album, stating that it would have significant "feminist vibes."
When discussing the album progress in September, she said:
"It's empowering. There's some feminist vibes going on. It's the same old me with a bit of swearing going on. Good choruses, key changes here and there - that's it!"
We can't wait to hear what else is to come. Go Lily!
